The curative properties of brewed tea have been known for thousands of years. Because Honest Tea is brewed from genuine tea leaves it imparts many health benefits not found in other bottled teas.

Tea serves as a digestive aid and has powerful antioxidants. The antioxidants in green tea are believed to be at least 100 times more effective than Vitamin C and twenty-five times better than Vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other potentially life-threatening illnesses. Brewed tea is also believed to fight off dental plaque, inactivate the influenza virus, reduce blood glucose levels, lower cholesterol, and act as an antibacterial agent.
In addition, Honest Tea is low in calories. One 16 ounce bottle contains only 0-80 calories, depending on the flavor, which is dramatically less than other bottled teas or comparable beverages. Honest Tea, with a fraction of the calories and only natural ingredients, is a great alternative for those looking for a great-tasting, healthy beverage.
Epigallocatechin gallate (or EGCG for short) is a powerful antioxidant. Like other antioxidants, it works by binding to the harmful free radicals in the body, neutralizing their activity and helping maintain good health. EGCG is considered among the most potent antioxidants, with binding activity 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. EGCG is associated with numerous health benefits, including the prevention of heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's and cancer. You may have read that Honest Tea White Teas have 70-95 milligrams of EGCG. But what does that actually mean? We have put together these responses to frequently asked questions in hopes of helping you gain a better understanding of the health benefits of our Mango White and Pearfect White.
Our high quality white teas are picked at just the right time. They deliver smooth taste, low caffeine and high antioxidant levels. A study by Rutgers University found that our white teas contain 70-95 mg EGCG and over 150 mg of total polyphenols per 16 oz. bottle.

Each tea was subjected to total phenol and antioxidant analysis (ABTS assay) and analysis of catechins (Epigallocatechin, Catechin, Epicatechin, Epigallocatechin gallate, Gallocatechin gallate, Epicatechin gallate, Catechin gallate) by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). This HPLC analysis is the most efficient method for identifying and quantifying polyphenols. The total phenols were expressed as mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE) per bottle of tea.
The USDA hasn't put out a recommended daily intake of EGCG, so we cannot measure our teas against any industry standard. But the Rutgers analysis did show that Honest Tea white tea delivers as much as 7x the EGCGs of competitive brands.
