(Bethesda, Md. - June 3, 2013) - Honest Tea, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company, today began rolling out its latest video spot celebrating the brand’s use of organic ingredients in its real brewed tea. The video shows footage and close-up images of the organic and Fair Trade Certified™ tea bushes like those that are brewed to make Honest Tea, sharing an origin story from the tea garden to the bottle.
“Our organic ingredients are beautiful, simple and delicious” said Seth Goldman, co-founder & TeaEO of Honest Tea. “We want to share our story in a way that is transparent and communicates what our drinks and our brand are about.”

The video introduces the ingredients in a style that echoes the classic rhyme, “This is the House that Jack Built.” “The storytelling in this video creates a familiar cadence and rhythm that is both simple and direct, just like the real, organic ingredients that we source from nature,” said Honest Tea’s Vice President of Marketing Peter Kaye.
The new video, tailored for online viewing, will start appearing on Men’s Health and Women’s Health digital properties today, as well as a network of sites that cater towards audiences with active lifestyles. Successful pre-launch paves way for carbonated line in four varieties: Lemon Limey, Orange Pop, Professor Fizz, and Root Beer
(Bethesda, MD - February 28, 2013) - - HONEST TEA®, the maker of the nation’s top-selling organic bottled teas, as well as HONEST ADE® and HONEST KIDS® juice drink beverages is building on its initial launch of HONEST® Fizz, a line of naturally sweetened zero calorie sodas, by making it available in additional natural and specialty retailers across the country. The soda line consists of four varieties: Lemon Limey, Orange Pop, Professor Fizz, and USDA Organic Root Beer, the only organic zero-calorie root beer on the market.
All varieties are sold in in either 12 fl. oz., aluminum Sleek® single cans or in six-can fridge packs. The fridge pack is made of corrugated cardboard, contains up to 30% pre-consumer recycled material and is recyclable.
“Honest Fizz is fun, tasty and naturally-sweetened, and will help us connect with soda consumers seeking a naturally-sweetened alternative, as well as shoppers at natural and specialty stores looking for a zero-calorie soda option,” said Seth Goldman, co-founder and TeaEO of Honest Tea.
As a result of strong interest from retailers, starting March 1, Honest Fizz will be available at a number of natural and specialty retailers around the country including Whole Foods, Sprouts Farmers Market, Gelson's Market and Bristol Farms.
Honest Fizz is naturally sweetened with a blend of stevia leaf extract and erythritol, a natural sugar alcohol. None of the ingredients in Honest Fizz contain GMOs. At this time only Root Beer is certified organic. “Our original intent was to make the entire line certified organic, but the cost differentials on organic zero-calorie sweeteners is still too high,” noted Goldman, “We’re glad we managed to make Root Beer certified organic, and look forward to converting more varieties to organic over time. In the long run, we always choose organic, but in the short run, we realize it may take several years to get there.”
Goldman recently posted a blog at inc.com in which he discussed Honest Tea’s deliberations with the organic/natural decision.

(Bethesda, Md. - February 21, 2013) - Honest Tea, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company, is launching a new beverage line called Honest Splash. The 70 calorie juice-based drinks are sweetened only with organic fruit juice and contain between 30-31% juice. Honest Splash is available in re-closable 12 fl. oz. recyclable plastic bottles and sold both individually and in 6-bottle packages. Honest Splash is available in three varieties: Berry Good Lemonade, Goodness Grapeness and Super Fruit Punch.
The new beverage line is an evolution of the Honest Kids® brand, which accounts for more than one-third of Honest Tea’s total business. “Honest Splash is a great fit for older kids, or kids on the go, who need the convenience of a larger, re-closable container. It still meets the needs of parents who want to provide lower-sugar beverages” says Honest Tea’s co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman.
Honest Splash meets the American Beverage Association’s School Beverage Guidelines for High Schools which permit drinks with 66 calories per 8 fluid ounces, up to 12 fl. oz., to be sold in high schools.
Individual Honest Splash bottles are available in select retailers including more than 1,250 Target® Cafés. The six-packs will be sold exclusively at Target® in more than 1,100 stores from mid-March through the end of June at an everyday price of $5.49, and will roll out to other retailers starting July 2013.

Third Annual Company Mission Report Outlines Practices for Sustainability, Growth & Innovation
(Bethesda, Md. - December 18, 2012) - Honest Tea®, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company today released its 2012 mission report, “Keeping it Honest.” The third annual report details how the company is working to live up to its mission - “to create and promote great-tasting, healthier, organic beverages” - and extend economic opportunities to help communities in need. Keeping It Honest, which examines data from June 2011 - May 2012, is part of Honest Tea’s ongoing quest to live up to its mission and to be transparent about progress and setbacks toward this goal with respect to all aspects of the business.
“Keeping It Honest helps ensure that all of our major decisions are reviewed annually through the lens of our mission.” says co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman. “We’d like to think that we always have our mission in mind as we operate, but it’s helpful to have this annual report to hold us accountable.”
Highlights include:
● 354,322 lbs. of wood pulp and other natural resources conserved as a result of reducing the amount of cardboard in each Honest Kids carton by 0.56 oz.
● 1,300 metric tons of CO2 emissions projected to be saved by transferring bottled-beverage production to a facility 500 miles closer to the warehouse.
● 325,000 lbs. of Fair Trade USA certified ingredients purchased. Fair Trade premiums paid as a result of these purchases go directly to the communities where the ingredients are sourced, and invested in schools, better roads and electricity, vaccines, computers and busses.
● 4,367,000 lbs. of organic ingredients purchased in 2011 an increase of 13%% over 2010, and up from 790,000 lbs. in 2007. This growth is a result of the company’s efforts to democratize organics via expanded distribution.
The report also highlights a variety of mission-related initiatives, including an award-winning recycling initiative, The Great Recycle, community programs and partnerships, and more.
Honest Tea’s Vice-President and Deputy Chief of Mission, Cheryl Newman says “this Mission Report is our most comprehensive to date. We were able to review a recent shift in our West Coast production through the lens of our 2011 Life Cycle Analysis. It’s a great example of being able to manage what we measure, and more clearly understanding the environmental benefits of our decisions.”

(Bethesda, Md. - September 20, 2012) - Honest Tea®, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company, today unveiled its reformulated Honest Kids “fruit-juice sweetened” line of beverages. All five varieties of the popular pouches have been updated by removing the organic cane sugar and increasing the juice content. Honest Kids beverages now have between 30-42 percent juice, an increase between 12-26 percentage juice, depending on variety. Nutritionally, the drinks remain at 40 calories per 6.75 fluid oz. pouch.
“Honest Kids has experienced dramatic growth to the point where it is almost a third of our business,” said co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman. “We are excited we found a way to deliver the same not-too-sweet taste by sweetening the drinks only with fruit juice.”
Additionally, the graphics on Honest Kids pouches and cartons have been updated to feature fruit photography emphasizing the flavors in each variety. The updated look aligns the appearance of Honest Kids® with the clean, simple look of Honest Tea® and Honest Ade®.
The Honest Kids “fruit-juice sweetened” line of beverages will also be available in a brand new, 59 oz. multi-serve bottle. The new bottle, with an easy to pour grip and embossed with the words “HONEST®” and “ORGANIC” on the neck, is designed for home consumption. “We received numerous requests from parents who wanted a larger package for families to enjoy at home,” Goldman said.
Honest Tea is continuing its focus on sustainability by actively promoting TerraCycle’s Drink Pouch Brigade® on cartons. The program, which was started by Honest Tea and TerraCycle in 2007, has been responsible for collecting more than 100 million used kids drink pouches from a number of manufacturers over the past five years. Those pouches have been recycled into new products including back packs, pencil cases and bike racks.
The company’s five Honest Kids varieties are: Berry Berry Good Lemonade, Goodness Grapeness, Tropical Tango Punch, Super Fruit Punch, and Appley Ever After. The 8-pouch cartons will debut in natural food stores in October and grocery stores nationwide starting January 2013. Three varieties -- Berry Berry Good Lemonade, Super Fruit Punch and Goodness Grapeness -- will be available in new, redesigned 59 fluid oz. multi-serve bottles launching during the same time period. ###About Honest Tea

The outcomes were recorded using a customized digital tracking application by undercover observers nearby. Data collected for the National Honesty Index included geographic locations such as cities and iconic business districts; observable characteristics like gender and hair color; groupings of people including baseball fans, comic book fans, beachgoers, people with kids and more.
“We’ve expanded our social experiment to measure the honesty of observable characteristics, including location,” Seth Goldman, President and TeaEO of Honest Tea. “Though our experiment might not pass muster with a social scientist, the results present fascinating and fun insights about the American population.”

"While the National Honesty Index measured consumer’s honesty in almost three times as many cities as last year, it was great to see that by and large, people across the country are honest," said Peter Kaye, Honest Tea VP of Marketing. "With the exception of the man who tried to steal our duct tape, it's inspiring to see these results are consistent with our efforts to be refreshingly honest in making our beverages with real, organic ingredients."
Honest Tea will donate the money collected plus an additional amount to City Year, an AmeriCorps program which unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service. The goal of the nonprofit is to build community by helping to turn around high-need schools and get at-risk students back on track.
“Since one purpose of our experiment is to highlight the level of trust in communities across our nation, we’re glad to donate the money collected from this year’s experiment to City Year, which helps make our communities stronger,” said Goldman.

National Recycling Tour Travels to Seattle Center and Greentopia Festival in Rochester in On-Going Initiative to Boost Recycling Rates Around the Country
(Bethesda, Md. - July 25, 2012) - Honest Tea®, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company, announced today Seattle, WA and Rochester, NY as the next two locations for The Great Recycle. Featuring a 30-foot tall blue recycling bin, The Great Recycle is Honest Tea’s national recycling initiative which kicked off in New York City’s Times Square this past April with the aim to help increase recycling rates nationwide.
“Recycling rates have been hovering around 30% for too long,” says Honest Tea co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman. “We launched The Great Recycle to help boost recycling rates around the country, and we’re excited to expand our efforts to Seattle and Rochester. Our goal is to recycle as many bottles as we sell by 2020.”
In Seattle, where a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the World’s Fair is on-going, the giant recycling bin will be located on the grounds of the Seattle Center, in the shadow of the Space Needle south of the International Fountain, from 11am-6pm on August 3 & 4. On August 5, it will be located on the south side of the sports stadium near Occidental Avenue, from 4pm-6:30pm before the start of the soccer match.
From there, the big bin travels to Rochester, NY to be part of Greentopia, a week-long art, music, activism, and food festival; the recycling bin will be set up on September 15 & 16.
At The Great Recycle events, attendees are encouraged to bring empty plastic bottles to recycle, and in exchange will receive items such as: a free cold bottle of Honest Tea for one bottle recycled; t-shirts, reusable bags, or sunglasses for five or more bottles recycled; and a gift certificate for a mountain bike for 200 or more bottles recycled (while supplies last). All beverage containers collected will be sorted, recycled, and pelletized so the plastic can be reused.
For those unable to attend in-person, Honest Tea has created the Facebook Recycler application at www.TheGreatRecycle.com, which provides an opportunity for people to make a weekly recycling pledge and recycle an old Facebook post cementing their commitment to the cause. By taking the online pledge, users will be rewarded with Recyclebank points which can be redeemed for discounts and deals from more than 3,000 local and national businesses. To date, over 40,000 people have pledged to recycle 380,000 beverage containers a week.

HONEST TEA LAUNCHES ITS FIRST INTEGRATED ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN: "REFRESHINGLY HONEST™"
Celebrating the Brand’s True Taste, the Campaign Utilizes Local TV, Digital, Social Promotions, Out-of-Home Ads, and Grassroots Events
(Bethesda, Md. - July 16, 2012) - Honest Tea, the nation’s top-selling organic bottled tea company today began rolling out its first integrated advertising campaign with the new tagline “Refreshingly Honest™.” The ads highlight the true taste of HONEST® beverages by emphasizing the company’s use of real, organic ingredients with a quirky playfulness that stays true to the brand. This is Honest Tea’s first foray into TV commercials. The company will also extend the campaign to digital video, social media, out-of-home billboards and transit signage, as well as grassroots events around the country.
“Refreshingly Honest™ has multiple meanings for us,” said Honest Tea’s co-founder, President and TeaEO Seth Goldman. “It reflects not only the delicious, lightly-sweetened taste of our drinks and the use of real, organic ingredients, but also the honest and transparent nature in which we strive to conduct our business.”
The multi-platform advertising campaign for Honest Tea is designed to expand the base of consumers who enjoy HONEST TEA® and HONEST ADE®. “We are committed to bringing organics to more people,” Goldman said, “and now that we have increased our distribution, we need to make people aware of our products.” As a result of Honest Tea’s acquisition by the Coca-Cola Company in 2011, distribution has expanded from 15,000 accounts in 2008 (when Coke first invested in the brand) to over 100,000 accounts in 2012.
“The television ad is a playful way to highlight the fact that we make our drinks with real, organic tea leaves and ingredients,” said Honest Tea’s Vice President of Marketing Peter Kaye. The ad depicts animated fake fruit and tea leaves trying to gain access to a bottle of HONEST TEA® Half & Half organic tea with lemonade, but ultimately leaving frustrated when they are supplanted by real, organic ingredients. “We hope the spots will provoke consumers to think about what goes into the beverages they are consuming.” The ads are scheduled to start July 16th.
To spread the “Refreshingly Honest” attributes of all HONEST® branded products - HONEST TEA®, HONEST ADE®, and HONEST KIDS® - the company will use a variety of approaches beyond media this year, including nearly three thousand grassroots events and in-store demonstrations. Brand ambassadors represent Honest Tea through sampling opportunities and interactive events at concerts, festivals, and retail locations.
“There is no better way to convince someone to try Honest Tea than by engaging with them directly, person to person,” said Kaye. “Our teams are passionate about the brand, and that’s why the continued regional events are the foundation of our “Refreshingly Honest™” campaign.”
Honest Tea’s creative partner for the new advertising campaign is Amalgamated NYC. The media planning partner is Ikon3.

HONEST TEA LAUNCHES "THE GREAT RECYCLE" IN EFFORT TO BOOST RECYCLING RATES NATIONALLY
National Initiative Kicks Off on April 30th with 30-Foot Recycling Bin Placed in Times Square to Show Support for New York City's Pledge to Double Recycling Efforts
(Bethesda, Md. - April 10, 2012) - Honest Tea® announced today a new, national recycling initiative called "The Great Recycle," which will launch in New York City's Times Square on Monday, April 30th.
In a show of support for New York City's pledge to double recycle efforts by 2017, Honest Tea and partners GrowNYC, Recyclebank, Coca-Cola Live Positively, Global Inheritance and Five-Boro Green Services will place a 30-foot tall recycling bin in Times Square and attempt to crowd-source recycle more than 45,000 plastic, glass and aluminum beverage containers in ten hours. The plastic bottles collected will be recycled into essential gardening supplies including shovels, watering cans and plastic lumber, which will be used to build and cultivate an urban garden for PS 102, an elementary school in Harlem.
"National recycling rates are nowhere near where they need to be," says Honest Tea co-founder and TeaEO Seth Goldman. "Honest Tea is committed to finding ways to help Americans recycle more. We've helped install recycling bins in our hometown of Bethesda, MD and now it's time to expand our efforts."
At the event in Times Square, bottles will act as currency. People who bring bottles down to "The Great Recycle" will be awarded points for each bottle recycled, that can be redeemed at the onsite TRASHed Recycling Store run by Global Inheritance. There, points can be redeemed for rewards such as cold bottles of Honest Tea, t-shirts and reusable bags, jeans, video games, and tickets to sporting events, concerts and Broadway shows.
"New York City is a world leader in many areas and is committed to actions that secure a sustainable and livable future for all residents. The goal to double the waste diversion rate includes initiatives like expanding access to recycling in public spaces, and other initiatives that will make it even easier to do the right thing. This is just one component of the Mayor's efforts to make New York City one of the greenest, most livable cities," says David Hurd, the Director of Office of Recycling Outreach & Education for GrowNYC. "Recycling beverage containers is a simple everyday way to combat climate change and reduce the cost of exporting our waste to other states."
Those who cannot attend the event in Times Square will have an opportunity to participate in "The Great Recycle" by logging onto www.TheGreatRecycle.com and making a recycling pledge and then solidifying it by recycling an old Facebook post. By taking the pledge, users will be rewarded with Recyclebank points which can be redeemed for discounts and deals from more than 3,000 local and national businesses in categories ranging from food and beverage to health and beauty, restaurants, entertainment, sports and recreation, apparel, automotive, electronics and more.
Honest Tea partnered with TerraCycle in 2007 to create the Drink Pouch Brigade, a program which recycles drink pouches and ‘upcycles' them into items such as pencil cases, book bags, and notebooks. Since 2007, nearly one million Honest Kids pouches have been diverted from landfills. The Drink Pouch Brigades now divert more drink pouches from the waste stream than Honest Tea produces each year.
In 2008, Honest Tea partnered with Bethesda Green and The Coca-Cola Company to install 33 recycling bins throughout downtown Bethesda. Within the first year the bins collected more than 4,000 lbs. of recyclable beverage containers.###About Honest Tea

HONEST TEA ENLISTS PARENTS AND CHILDREN TO HELP PLANT 50,000 TREES THROUGH ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIP
(Bethesda, Md. - April 9, 2012) - Honest Tea®, the nation's top-selling organic bottled tea company, is partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant 50,000 trees across the United States.
The “Be an Honest Kid” promotion seeks to educate children and their parents about the importance of reforestation and the critical role trees play in the environment, including cleaner air, safer drinking water and thriving wildlife populations. Through the newly refreshed website, www.Honest-Kids.com, parents and their children can select the region and state where they would like to support tree planting.
“The ‘Be an Honest Kid’ program is a fun way to get kids and their parents engaged in our tree planting efforts,” said Seth Goldman, co-founder & TeaEO of Honest Tea. “We’re also delighted to launch updated Honest Kids packaging with such a strong environmental message.”
Honest Tea makes conservation a priority in its own products. The new Honest Kids packaging reduces the amount of wood pulp used to create each carton by 13 percent. That will lead to an estimated savings of 300,000 lbs. of pulp this year alone. The new, more environmentally friendly packaging now features tree-themed artwork and games, as well as eco-tips contained on five collectible bookmarks. The tips geared towards children range from “turn off water while brushing your teeth,” to “play outside instead of on a screen.”
“My favorite eco-tip is ‘wipe your hands on cloth instead of paper towels,’ however I originally proposed ‘wipe your hands on your pants instead of paper towels:’ but I got overruled internally,” said Goldman. The final version reads “cloth” instead of paper.
“This creative partnership with Honest Tea will involve both parents and children in helping communities restore the trees they lost to natural disasters and drought,” said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation.
All five Honest Kids' varieties - Appley Ever After, Goodness Grapeness, Berry Berry Good Lemonade, Tropical Tango Punch, Super Fruit Punch - will have different bookmarks with unique eco-tips.
