The Kentucky Derby is less than a month away, and we’ve come up with a twist on a traditional mint julep that will wow any viewing party guest! We’re focusing on the mint, using Moroccan Mint Tea as the base of a delectable grapefruit punch. Even the most discerning guest will request seconds!
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup organic sugar
20 fresh mint leaves, divided
1 16-ounce bottle Honest Tea Moroccan Mint Tea
4 cups strained pink grapefruit juice
12 dashes angostura bitters
1 cup club soda
Thin slices of pink grapefruit, for garnish
Ice, to serve
(Optional) 2 1/2 cups bourbon
To make the mint simple syrup: combine 1/3 cup water and 1/3 cup sugar in small saucepan over low heat. Stir until sugar dissolves, then increase heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat; add 10 mint leaves and cover. Let mixture cool completely.
In a large punch bowl, combine one bottle of Moroccan Mint Tea, grapefruit juice, and club soda. Strain mint simple syrup directly into the punch bowl (discarding the spent mint leaves) and add remaining 10 fresh mint leaves, stirring to combine. Float thin slices of pink grapefruit in the bowl for garnish; to serve, ladle over ice in each glass.
Serves 10 – 12.
